For more literature on contemporary music from the continent, here’s an interesting PDF (~0,2 MB) from the Depatment of Anthropolgy and African Studies @ the University of Mainz in Germany.
Next book on my wishlist is Gerhard Kubik’s “Africa and the Blues”.

Kubik’s book is also on my wishlist! He was on the afropop podcast with Georg Collinet, also titled Africa and the blues, check it out afropop.org. The podcast link is http://www.afropop.org/podcast/afropop.xml

“Rumba on the river” is a great read and an even better reference. I will keep an eye out for Kubik.
